My shooting style is vibrant and clean with strong colors so I wanted to ‘shoot’ outside of the box with a different style and my visiting SIL (sister-in-law) was kind enough to model for me. The movie Big Fish was filmed here back in 2003 and the movie set from the fictional town of “Spectre, AL” still stands on a hidden little island (very fitting place for those that have seen the movie) and even though it’s just a movie set it feels like an abandoned ghost town when you are there. It was so rainy when she was visiting but we had about an hour before dark one night where it quit raining so we rushed out there and hurriedly snapped away because the light was fading fast!! I didn’t get very long to shoot but I got enough for the experience.
So, it’s probably not something I would shoot for someone’s senior portraits (they have a bit of a ghosty, dreary vibe to them I think) but it was fun to try something different which I think helps me define the type of photographer that I am and what I want to be.
